Resources for Neurodiverse Minds

What does it mean to be neurodiverse and why do I care?

Many of you may be very familiar with the term neurodiverse and for some, this is a new term.

An article put out by Harvard states:

“Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no ‘right’ way of thinking, learning, and behaving.”

People with ADD/ADHD, Autism, and other learning differences are all included in this category.

So, why does a professional organizer have information about this on her website?

Long before I was a professional organizer, I realized that I had some family members with brains that were a bit neurospicy. I started educating myself about how their brains worked and how I could create systems and structure in the house that worked for them and for me.

Then, when I started my organizing business, my flexible, caring, one-on-one approach and background in neurodiversity helped me connect with similar clients who needed support in their organizational journeys.

I hope some of the resources below can help you and your family.

What the heck is body doubling and how can it help?

Body Doubling is when you work alongside another person, each doing your own tasks, but using each other’s presence as a motivator to stay on track. For folks who are neurodivergent and whose minds tend to wander and get off task, body doubling can help them improve focus and motivation when they need to tackle boring or monotonous tasks.

If you are unable to have someone physically with you as your body double, you can call a friend for accountability or look for virtual body doubling sessions as well. I offer several virtual body doubling sessions for my ADD and ADHD clients each month. Click to button to find out more.
